Signing of the Siemens-MEINS Chair agreement at the University of Salamanca

MEINS, Siemens and the University of Salamanca (USAL) signed on July 16, 2026 the agreement establishing the Siemens-MEINS Chair in Advanced Electrical Systems, an initiative focused on specialized training, applied research and knowledge transfer in advanced electrical systems, industrial digitalization and the energy transition. The project includes the creation of an Advanced Electrical Systems Laboratory-Classroom at the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineering (ETSII) in Béjar.

What is the Siemens-MEINS Chair?

The Siemens-MEINS Chair in Advanced Electrical Systems is a university chair promoted by MEINS, Siemens and the University of Salamanca with a clear goal: bringing university education closer to the real needs of the electrical industry and preparing professionals for the challenges of digitalization, the energy transition and industrial sustainability.

The agreement was signed by:

  • Juan Manuel Corchado Rodríguez, Rector of the University of Salamanca
  • Juan Manuel Fernández Fernández, Managing Director of Electrification at Siemens for Spain and Portugal
  • Julián Herrero González, President and Founder of MEINS

During the signing ceremony, Julián Herrero highlighted the importance of active industry involvement in educating the next generations: “We need to train those who will train the talent of the future.”

The Advanced Electrical Systems Laboratory-Classroom at the ETSII in Béjar

One of the main projects associated with the Chair is the creation of the Advanced Electrical Systems Laboratory-Classroom at the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineering (ETSII) in Béjar, University of Salamanca.

Each entity’s contribution:

  • MEINS: medium-voltage equipment, transformers, inverters and funding for the Chair’s activities.
  • Siemens: protection and control equipment and specialized software.
  • University of Salamanca: adaptation of the facilities that will house the laboratory.

This space will serve as an environment for learning, research and technology transfer, hosting projects with direct application in the industrial sector: advanced electrical systems, automation, industrial digitalization and new energy technologies.

A Bridge Between Academia and the Electrical Industry

Beyond driving R&D&I projects, the Chair will provide specialized training for students and faculty, foster knowledge transfer, and help position the ETSII in Béjar as a regional benchmark in technological innovation.

MEINS’ Commitment to Technological Development

MEINS is a Spanish manufacturer of prefabricated electrical infrastructure for renewable energy, BESS systems and data centers, with over 28 years of experience, more than 11 GW supplied across more than 35 countries, and ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 14064 certifications.
